Now that Labour Day weekend is over, we’re all either back at school or posted up at work. Sigh. But even though the summer season is over, that doesn’t mean we can’t still relive it all year long, right? We’re crowning THE song of the summer so you can listen to it on repeat during those snowy, rainy, windy, foggy and just generally gloomy days of the cold seasons to come. So who cares if there’s a blizzard outside? You’ll be in your bedroom wearing sunglasses and blasting Pitbull and Katy Perry while sippin’ on drinks with tiny umbrellas on the rim. Or is that just us? Here’s our top picks for Song of The Summer 2011:
Katy Perry - Last Friday Night (TGIF)
Last Friday Night (TGIF) is EVERYBODY’s guilty pleasure. Seriously — how many times have you caught yourself innocently singing Katy Perry’s end-of-the-week tribute song? I’d say between all of us contributors, probably about a thousand and one times. Give or take a couple hundred.
LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem
Remember when LMFAO were a couple of silly, poofy-haired dudes that were the laughing stock of the music industry? You might think the same of the uncle & nephew pair now, but you gotta admit that “Party Rock Anthem” is a cultural phenomenon. We don’t think it’s gonna die down anytime soon.
Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks
If you were to ask your mom what her favorite song of the summer was, we’re betting she’d probably say Foster The People’s “Pumped Up Kicks”. It’s such an easy-going, likeable pop-rock song — even though the lyrics are kinda creepy when you think about it…
Pitbull ft. Neyo, Afrojack & Nayer - Give Me Everything
The surprise hit of the summer comes from Latin popster Pitbull and his army of hitmakers with “Give Me Everything”. We gotta admit, we weren’t sure if we wanted to add this song to the list of huge summer jams, but after just one listen to this catchy song, you’ll be singing it for the rest of the day — maybe even the week!
Now, it’s time for you to make your pick…
See ya next year, summer!
