Christmas means family, presents (duh), snowmen, and days off from work and/or school, but a totally crucial aspect of the Holiday Season that people often forget is food. Whether it’s your grandma’s sugar cookies, your mom’s casserole, or your uncle’s (clearly store bought) fruitcake, food is a major staple of Christmas.
All of our favorite holiday treats are just around the corner, so to keep us from salivating, we thought we’d tide ourselves over by hitting up our Facebook users for their favorite songs about food. Bon appetit:
Pork and Beans - Weezer (Submitted by Nathan Taylor)
I’ma do the things that I wanna do / I ain’t got a thing to prove to you / I eat my candy with the pork and beans / Excuse my manners if I make a scene
Time off work and school means that you pretty much have no commitments over the holidays. In other words, junk food binges and sugar highs have no repercussions other than maybe annoying everyone around you followed by a stomach ache. We’ll take that risk.
Milkshake - Kelis (Submitted by Lilly Ann)
My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard / And they’re like, it’s better than yours / Damn right, it’s better than yours / I could teach you, but I have to charge
With Christmas comes an almost religious obsession with eggnog; more people probably look forward to the day eggnog comes out at the grocery store than Christmas day itself. I know this song isn’t specifically about eggnog but the festive beverage has spawned dozens of hybridized drinks: eggnog lattes, eggnog cocktails, and most importantly, eggnog milkshakes.
Hollaback Girl - Gwen Stefani (Sumbitted by Laura Guardi)
Let me hear you say, this sh*t is bananas / B A N A N A S / This sh*t is bananas / B A N A N A S
So by now we’ve covered candy, canned food, and dairy drinks which is all probably going to send you on a one way trip to Diabetesville. Why not add some healthy fruit into the mix? And learn how to spell ‘bananas’ while you’re at it.
Hope that keeps you full for the next couple days. Don’t worry y’all, that Christmas turkey will be here in no time!
